FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I get around Sheridan?

Historic Downtown Sheridan is easily walkable and if you are staying at The Sheridan Inn or Best Western, you will find a colorful collection of shops, restaurants and attractions. The Best Western also offers complimentary shuttles to and from Sheridan County Airport upon request. The Powder Horn incorporates club amenities and activities that are within walking distance in the community. For our adventurous friends, consider exploring the Bighorns via vehicle with four-wheel drive. Rentals are available at all airports in our recommended travel itineraries.

Will there be transportation for wedding events?

We are delighted to host transportation for our wedding events. The Sheridan Inn and Powder Horn clubhouse are designated as shuttle arrival and departure destinations. We do not recommend driving however, parking is available at both venues if needed.

Can I bring a plus one and are children invited?

If we have included your plus one, they will be indicated as an addressed guest on your formal invitation. Due to the size and space of our venues, we ask that you RSVP only for the guests addressed on your invitation HERE. This will be an adult only affair. We want our wedding to be your weekend off!

What should I wear?

WELCOME ASADO

Your comfort is essential, and we suggest wearing suitable shoes and light outerwear for outdoors. The dress code is described as “Elevated Western” and we ask that you utilize our celebration as an excuse to truly have fun with your weekend attire. If you need further inspiration, check out more ideas HERE.

OUR WEDDING

The Ceremony Lawn is not paved and there is a brief, but beautiful, walk to the Museum West Side afterwards. Please consider shoes that you feel are appropriate. The dress code is Black-Tie optional, and you can visit HERE for a helpful style guide.

What can I expect of Wyoming weather in June?

Sheridan’s summer weather begins in mid-June, with average daily high temperatures around 78°F and average low temperatures around 50°F in the evening. With that being said, High Plains weather is notoriously fickle and we suggest dressing in layers as temperatures can quickly rise and fall.

What is there to do in Sheridan?

Downtown Sheridan is about as American West as it gets in 2023, main drag and all. Heading to Main Street, this is where some of the most interesting, and historic, shops and watering holes in town call home. And your obvious starting place to get the most out of your time here.

  • Start with a stop in King’s Saddlery. Make your way all the way to the back (out of the back door, across an alley, and into the next building) to watch and learn how ropes are made. A quick stop into the Don King Museum, which is part of this same building, offers some insight into the incredible detail and history of saddle making and western gear. On your way out, pick up one of their famous trucker hats, even the Queen of England had one.

  • The Museum at the Bighorns contains more than 30,000 items including collections featuring a range and variety of materials that celebrate western culture, commemorating events, people, and landscapes spanning from the early nineteenth century through to contemporary times.

  • Trail End, also known as the John B. Kendrick Mansion, is a historic home located at 400 Clarendon Avenue in Sheridan, Wyoming. The home was built and inhabited by Wyoming governor and U.S. Senator John B. Kendrick.

  • Cowboy Cafe

For the cowboy way to start the day, try Cowboy Cafe for breakfast. They have a wide selection of offerings for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Don’t miss out on their homemade pie!

    Wyoming’s Rib & Chop House

Enjoy premium steaks, fresh seafood and award-winning baby back ribs at the Rib & Chop House Sheridan location.

  • A bar that easily tops the list as one of the oldest dive bars around with historic photos and taxidermy covering the walls. It was once a speakeasy during prohibition and still serves as a watering hole for the local cowboys for a drink after work.

  • There are several local breweries around Sheridan. Stop by Black Tooth Brewing Company, Smith Alley Brewing Company, or Luminous Brewhouse for a bite to eat and local beer.

The Bighorn National Forest offers something for everyone with breathtaking scenery, a diversity of recreation experiences, and 192,000 acres of wilderness with over 1,200 miles of trails. Various favorite day hikes accessible via driving from Sheridan include Jackson Peak, Porcupine Falls, Tongue River Canyon, Medicine Wheel, and Tensleep Falls.

  • Jackson Peak | Bear Gulch Hike

For the quickest access to the Bighorn mountains from our lodging locations, take Country Route 26, known locally as Red Grade Road. The road begins at the town of Big Horn and heads directly up the face of the Bighorn Mountains on a steep, unpaved gravel road (4X4 vehicles recommended). The road ascends 7,000 ft and tops out at 9,300 ft with high meadow views of the Bighorn range. After 3-4 miles, you will cross the forest boundary marked with a large sign. 3.2 miles past this sign is a parking lot on the right side of the road with an A-frame wooden fence, this is the parking lot for Bear Gulch. Park here and follow the trail which will take you into a meadow overlooking Jackson Peak and the rock walls of Bear Gulch. You can ascend to the top of the Peak by navigating around the left side of the rock face.

Stop by Rocky Mountain Discount Sports in Sheridan for trail maps and any gear you may need for your adventures.

  • If you are staying at the Power Horn, you’ll have access to fish the Little Goose Creek and ponds around the property. Guided fly-fishing excursions for private access water (wade or float) are also available. To make reservations, call Rock Creek Anglers at the HF Bar Ranch or Fly Shop of the Bighorns.

  • HF Bar Ranch

The HF Bar Ranch is a spectacular dude ranch situated across a pristine valley on nearly 7,500 acres bordering Wyoming's Bighorn National Forest. Typically trail rides across the ranch are offered for overnight guests but call to inquire about ride availability. We also suggest spending a night or two before or after the wedding to enjoy the lovely ranch!

The Soldier Ridge Trail is a moderate 4-mile ride located 5 minutes from downtown Sheridan located where pavement turns to gravel at the end of W 5th St. Take the second left on the gravel road, cross a cattle guard, and turn right into the trailhead parking area. There are several other trails available for more advanced riders.

  • The Big Horn Polo Club is located close to Sheridan, Wyoming in the foothills of the Big Horn Mountains. The summer season begins the first week of June with practice games on Wednesdays and Fridays at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm, and Sunday tournament games at 1:00 pm. Spectators are encouraged to come watch practice or the Sunday polo match for an afternoon of tailgating. Admission is free! For our polo playing friends, contact August for chukker or lesson inquiries.

  • Unfortunately, the Powder Horn Golf Club will be hosting a club tournament the weekend of our wedding, so no golf is available at the Powder Horn course on Friday or Saturday. There is also a municipal course in downtown Sheridan (Kendrick) which has tee times available throughout the weekend.
